The intent of this part of the program area is to promote Tooro’s traditional knowledge and practices that influence social cohesion, peace and integrity in communities we live. This is achieved through 4 major traditional platforms and they are:
- Akaswa Ka Tooro: Akaswa ka Tooro is a local language phrase literally meaning an Anthill of Tooro. An anthill is a heap of soil put together collectively by ants purposely for shelter and reproduction and nurturing young ones to maturity. Traditionally bringing up children in Tooro called for collective efforts of members of the extended family and neighborhoods. It is not the case today due to rapid changes in family sizes and responsibility, changes as a result of development trends such as all parents going to work and leave children to stay with maids or spending most of the time in schools. In that context, children miss mentorship of valued traditional life skills from their parents. Akaswa Ka Tooro therefore, is a traditional platform that brings together children and youth in Tooro Kingdom to be provided with traditional life skills that enables them value and protect their cultural identity, keep healthy, creative and enterprising. It is a 3 to 5 days residential life skills program carried out during the end of each year under a given theme.
- Ekyoto Mukairirizi:Is a program that brings people together on a borne fire in the evening to discuss how to solve pertinent Issues that affect their socioeconomic lifestyles in homes or at community level for examples, domestic violence, rampant drug and substance abuse among youth, etc.
- Hakasaka:Is a cultural platform to bring married couples together to share experience, learn cultural knowledge and skills to strengthen their love relationships, minimize family break ups, encourage human rights and improved household incomes.
